Malawi

Malawi, home to approximately 13.9 million people, is a landlocked country in southeastern Africa. It is among the world's least developed and most densely populated countries. The economy is heavily based in agriculture, with a largely rural population.

Our Social Performance Management Center has developed a Progress out of the Poverty™ (PPI™)  measurement tool for use in Malawi. The PPI™ is an easy and flexible tool that is customized for a particular country. The PPI™ allows poverty-focused organizations to track the progress of the people they serve. This is a key element for several reasons. The PPI™ allows organizations to show that their clients are making progress. It also provides a way of measuring the effectiveness of a program and determining how it might be adjusted to work better.
 
As socially responsible investors become more and more prominent in funding poverty-focused organizations, they will require more and more evidence that poor people’s lives are improving. The PPI™ is increasingly becoming the tool recognized as providing this evidence.
